La millor galeta del món / The Best Cookie in the World
Sé que el títol sona una mica absolutista; si fóssim seriosos hauríem fer un estudi científic comparatiu amb totes les galetes del món per poder-ho dir, però quan vaig a l’estranger i veig les tifarades que anomenen galetes, penso “ai, pobrets, no saben lu que és bo”. En fi, aquestes les fan a la casa Trias de Santa Coloma de Farners. Jo diria que oficialment es diuen “neulets de xocolata”. N’hi ha a algunes de les capses que es poden trobar a molts supers d’arreu (un cop en vaig trobar a Londres), però si en voleu un bon grapat només d’aquestes, haureu d’anar directament a la botiga de Santa Coloma.

El Pont de les Peixateries Velles de Girona / Eiffel Bridge in Girona
Històricament conegut com el pont de les Peixeteries Velles, jo sempre n’he dit el pont de Ferro. A un dels extrems hi ha una placa que explica que el va fer l’empresa de Gustave Eiffel el 1876. L’any passat va ser restaurat i el van repintar amb aquest vermell tan llampant; abans era d’un vermell més fosc (o potser era el mateix vermell actual però que amb el temps s’havia embrutit i enfosquit). Que a Girona hi ha un pont de Gustave Eiffel, molta gent ho sap, però no tanta que a Palamós també n’hi ha un, més discret, que originalment també havia estat a Girona.

Here you have a bridge Gustave Eiffel company built in Girona in 1876, yes, the same Gustave as the one of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The bridge was restored last year and its known as Old Fishmongers’ Bridge, or Iron Bridge (obvious). There’s another bridge by Eiffel in Palamós (30 mi from Girona, see it in Google Street View), which was originally in Girona too.

Aquest cap de setmana comencen les Fires de Girona. Els nens petits aniran a la nòria i els més grans a les barraques; tots a la Devesa, el parc urbà més gran de Catalunya (Viquipèdia dixit).

“La Devesa” is an urban park located in Girona, the largest one in Catalonia. These days it holds a funfair celebrating the official city holiday, “Sant Narcís“. According to a legend, “Sant Narcís” helped the citizens of Girona in the XIIIth century fighting with flies against the french army that was besieging the city. There is another legend regarding the origin of this park that involves the french army: the troops of Napoleon planted the trees during the siege of the city in 1808. Actually, some people believe the second legend is true, but it isn’t: the park was created by the city hall on the second half of the XIXth century.
